Wedding Caterer Won't Return Deposit Check

I gave the caterer a check for deposit to hold Sept. 9 for our reception. We aren't able to get married on that date so I called the caterer and advised him we have to move wedding to 10months later and we would like our deposit check back.

We are having at 2pm or 3pm church wedding and the reception is going to be in the fellowship hall at the church. What food will we need to provide?
