What’s Wedding Wednesday? Serious Wedding Vendors Know

Apr 26

#WeddingWednesday, a weekly Twitter ritual for wedding professionals, launches on Facebook to celebrate discussions on all things weddings

By Erik Kent, Co-Publisher, NJWedding.com

Donna Ennis of Top Wedding Sites, Inc. and Pop the Questions recently asked me, “What is Wedding Wednesday (or #WeddingWednesday and #WW on Twitter) and why is it so important to the community of wedding professionals?”, which inspired me to write. The topic of “weddings” is a big one on the Internet. With the popularity of social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, the opportunity to gather information on this subject is always available and sometimes overwhelming, but there is a solution.

If you’ve been using Twitter for a while, you begin to realize the benefits of using “hashtags” to your posts in order for others (or yourself) to track them. There are also certain hashtags that are common to a certain event, a trending topic or even a special day. Many know about #FollowFriday in which you suggest some of the Twitter users you follow to YOUR followers, and other days like #MusicMonday in which you can post and find various bits of information on music. For the past couple of years, wedding professionals have created and found a common denominator to share information on weddings called #WeddingWednesday.

I asked some fellow NJ wedding professionals about #WeddingWednesday and received some great answers. Marni Gold of Creative Custom Card Boxes, said “Since Follow Friday was so popular and getting oversaturated, Wedding Wednesday was a way to have targeted suggestions for people to follow in the wedding industry.” And Dorinda Duclos, a long-time Twitter user and owner of Favors by Dorinda, added “When I first started doing #WW shout-outs, I would get 3-4 people asking me what it was. My reply was always ‘The wedding community showing its support for one another.’ Now I get comments like ‘how do you know so many people (I love Wedding Wednesdays!)?”

I’ve found #WeddingWednesday an incredible opportunity to find and network with others in the wedding industry, share important wedding information and news, and let those that support us know that we appreciate them. I recently spoke at the 21st Century Bride conference in East Rutherford, NJ on the topic of networking, and I referenced clicking on the #WeddingWednesdsay hashtag as a direct way of building your business network and also increasing your followers on Twitter, which also leads to increasing your connections on Facebook (since business profiles on Twitter often contain necessary info to find and connect with them on Facebook, too).

Two weeks ago, we launched “Wedding Wednesday” on Facebook to continue to build the relationships that have been formed and developed over the past couple of years on Twitter. Wedding professionals can post information about their business, share some fun wedding tips or news, network with others and continue to build the community.

Since its debut on Facebook on Wednesday, April 13th, the “Wedding Wednesday” page has received almost 300 members and continues to grow every week! Just visit http://www.facebook.com/weddingwednesday and click the “Like” button to join, and then feel free to post your news and send a Happy “Wedding Wednesday” to your friends in the wedding biz!
