Classic dance songs like \u201cCelebration\u201d and \u201cWe Are Family\u201d are being edged out primarily by the Black Eyed Peas various dance anthems. But, even with those songs there isn\u2019t much variation.<\/p>\n<p>As we\u2019ve been publicizing the results of this survey we\u2019ve gotten a lot of interesting responses. Some people are embarrassed to discover that \u201ctheir\u201d song is shared by lots of other couples. Other people aren\u2019t bothered at all. As one newlywed told me \u201cMy song is a clich\u00e9, but that just means we get to dance to it every time we go to a wedding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for a first dance song that isn\u2019t a clich\u00e9, think about what makes music personal to you. Don\u2019t worry as much about meaning and think more about events in your life. My husband and I chose \u201cSewanee River\u201d for our first song! Why? Well, believe it or not, it was the first song we ever danced to together. I heard about a couple who chose Gorillaz\u2019 \u201cDare\u201d for the same reason.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re worried that others will misinterpret the meaning of\u00a0 \u201cyour\u201d song, just ask your DJ or bandleader to explain the story behind it before the music starts.
