My wedding\u2019s on the fifth of May (Cinco de Mayo) and I really wanted to plan my wedding around that theme. Any ideas for centerpieces, especially?<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Lori<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As luck (or fate!) would have it, I just spoke to TV personality and leading Baltimore wedding planner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theweddingdiva.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Linnyette Richardson<\/a> \u2014 and she let on that she\u2019s planning precisely this kind of wedding for one adventurous couple. And as usual, she overflowed with ideas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re not a Mexican or Latin couple,\u201d she explains. \u201cThey\u2019re just having their wedding on May 5, and wanted to go with the theme.\u201d That\u2019s all it took for Lynnette\u2019s imagination to go into overdrive. Here are a few of the highlights:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"broken_link cb-lightbox\" href=\"https:\/\/www.favorideas.com\/images\/mexican-wedding-lg.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[3164]\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.favorideas.com\/images\/mexican-wedding-sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"402\" border=\"0\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.favorideas.com\/images\/mexican-wedding-sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"402\" border=\"0\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <strong>Colors: Sage and Coral.<\/strong> Not only does it speak to the theme, it\u2019s tremendously contemporary. \u201cWe\u2019re having a lighting company really work up the environment, creating a really warm, ambient light that folds everyone in. We\u2019ll avoid too much green light, since it\u2019s not too flattering. It\u2019ll be more of a peachy amber shade \u2014 just gorgeous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <strong>La Vida Loca.<\/strong> A giant dance floor\u2019s being brought in. The couple plans to wow their guests by performing a smoky tango for the First Dance. Afterward, pro dancers will rile the crowd with a high-energy routine, then split up to lead onlookers through basic salsa lessons.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"broken_link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pinatas.com\/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=PL300&amp;Click=22766\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.favorideas.com\/images\/cinco-cake-pinata.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"155\" height=\"277\" border=\"0\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.favorideas.com\/images\/cinco-cake-pinata.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"155\" height=\"277\" border=\"0\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <strong>Southern Comfort.<\/strong> \u201cThe menu\u2019s got a definite southwest flavor,\u201dsays Lynnyette. \u201cWe\u2019ll be serving Coronas, some Baja wines, and the food will be buffet-style so guests can mix it up.\u201d Plus, she says, she\u2019s planning a sweet and salty treat bar, featuring crowd-pleasers like chocolate-dipped pretzels and potato chips, and ample quantities of her secret weapon (slash-guilty-pleasure): Dale &amp; Thomas\u2019 cheddar-chipotle popcorn.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <strong>Femme Vitale. <\/strong> \u201cOf course, in this case the bride\u2019s not going to wear anything fooffy,\u201d she points out. Instead, she\u2019ll don a sleek gown, a chic chignon, a luxurious bloom in the hair, like gardenia \u2014 and dramatic red lipstick.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <strong>Beat a Retreat. <\/strong>The couple will do that literally: they\u2019re planning a grand exit that stars a giant, custom-designed pi\u00f1ata. One talented stick-wielder will crack it open to reveal a variety of tasty treats, plus individual iPods for 10 (count them!) lucky guests.<\/p>\n<p>Want a few more ideas for a southwestern twang? Brightly-colored <em>Alebrije <\/em>figurines on the tables will add south-of-the-border whimsy to the staidest of floral arrangements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Striped Rag Rugs. <\/strong>Lay these colorful accents under chairs and tables in your cocktail corner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mmmm, Good.<\/strong> Grilled shrimp with fresh-squeezed lime and sea salt. A taquitos bar with all the trimmings. Fresh and tangy mojitos. Feeling the love?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fabuloso Favors.<\/strong> <a class=\"broken_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.favorideas.com\/shopping\/prod\/phs-01.htm\">Custom-labeled hot sauce<\/a> \u2014 or mini-bottles of tequila \u2014 won\u2019t be left behind.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"broken_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.favorideas.com\/shopping\/prod\/phs-01.htm\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.favorideas.com\/images\/cinco-hot-sauce.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"221\" border=\"0\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.favorideas.com\/images\/cinco-hot-sauce.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"221\" border=\"0\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip-Top Treatments. <\/strong>A few sure winners: desert pods plus white orchids. Large clear cylinders filled with glossy chilis (red or green, your choice).<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget to load down your tables with flickering pillar candles and votives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Final Touch. <\/strong>Give your creation an extra dimension: lightly scent the room with sprays or fragrant candles.
