Some may also refer to the chinese calendar or almanac for good days. Usually, even numbered months and dates are preferred, and the lunar seventh month is avoided as it is the month of the Hungry Ghost Festival.After the selection of the auspicious dates, wedding details such as types and quantities of betrothal gifts, return gifts, bride\u2019s price \u5a09\u91d1, and number of tables at the wedding banquet provided by the groom\u2019s parents for the bride\u2019s parents\u2019 guest are decided on.<\/p>\n<p><b>Betrothal \u8fc7\u5927\u793c\/\u7eb3\u5f69<\/b><br \/>\nUp to a month and at least three days before the wedding day, the groom and a friend or a matchmaker will deliver the betrothal gifts on the auspicious date chosen.<\/p>\n<p>Western and chinese wedding cakes and peanut candies, together with two bottles of brandy, at least six tins of canned pork legs and even number of oranges are included in the wedding gift baskets. Two pairs of dragon and phoenix candles \u9f99\u51e4\u70dbare also included. Also included is gold jewellery from the groom\u2019s parents to the bride, such as the Cantonese Dragon and phoenix bangle \u9f99\u51e4\u7422 or the teochew\u2019s four items of gold\u56db\u70b9\u91d1.<\/p>\n<p>Some include the bride\u2019s price with the betrothal gifts, whereas some will only present it when the groom fetches the bride.<\/p>\n<p>In the return gifts, the 2 bottles of brandy will be replaced with 2 bottles of orange syrup. An even numbered portion of all the other gifts are returned to the groom\u2019s family together with the 2 phoenix candles. The bride\u2019s side will light the 2 dragon candles and the groom\u2019s side the phoenix candles on the morning of the wedding day.<\/p>\n<p>Some hokkien families will also ask for a bunch of bananas and red dates to be included in the return gifts. A red packet for the groom\u2019s parents to buy shoes is required. The bride will also present towels to the parents, grandparents, aunt, uncles and groom\u2019s siblings.<\/p>\n<p>After the betrothal, the chinese wedding invitations are distributed.<\/p>\n<p><b>Delivery of the bride\u2019s dowry \u9001\u5ac1\u5986<\/b><br \/>\nThe bride\u2019s parents may include the bride\u2019s dowry with the return gifts on the day of betrothal or deliver the dowry a few days before the wedding. The chinese dowry typically include<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 beddings such as pillows, bolsters, comforter set, blankets, bed sheets, etc., all tied with red ribbons;<br \/>\n\u2013 new clothes in a suitcase for the bride (in the past, wardrobes or wooden wedding chests are used.);<br \/>\n\u2013 tea set for the wedding tea ceremony;<br \/>\n\u2013 baby bathtub, potty, face washbasin, tumblers, toothpaste and toothbrushes, mirror, comb;<br \/>\n\u2013 two pairs of red wooden clogs wedding slippers or bedroom slippers;<br \/>\n\u2013 sewing basket with even numbered rolls of colourful thread, needles, pincushion, scissors, and sewing wax with auspicious words on it;<br \/>\n\u2013 gold jewellery given by bride\u2019s parents.<\/p>\n<p><b>Install the bridal bed \u6309\u5e8a<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A good fortune woman will install the bridal bed in the bridal room up to 12 days before the wedding day on an auspicious date. New red or pink bedsheets are used and a plate of dried longans, lotus seeds, red dates, persimmons, sprig of pomegranate leaves together with 2 red packets are placed on the bed. A pair of bedside lamps is lit to symbolize adding sons to the family.<\/p>\n<p><b>Hair combing ceremony \u68b3\u5934<\/b><br \/>\nGood fortune women will conduct this ceremony for the bride and groom in their respective homes the night before the chinese wedding. After showering with water infused with pomelo or pomegranate leaves, the bride and groom will change into a new set of clothing and shoes. The good fortune women will bless them aloud as they sit in front of an open window with a visible moon or in front of the mirror.<\/p>\n<p>The four blessings are:<\/p>\n<p>\u4e00\u68b3\u68b3\u5230\u5c3e\uff0c(First combing, together all your lives)<br \/>\n\u4e8c\u68b3\u767e\u5e74\u597d\u5408\uff0c(Second combing, harmony in your marriage)<br \/>\n\u4e09\u68b3\u5b50\u5b59\u6ee1\u5802\uff0c(Third combing, blessed with many children and grandchildren)<br \/>\n\u56db\u68b3\u767d\u53d1\u9f50\u7709\u3002(Fourth combing, blessed with longevity.)<\/p>\n<p>Sweet pink rice ball soup\u6c64\u5706 will be served after the hair combing ceremony to wish the couple a complete and sweet marriage.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.favorideas.com\/wedding-themes\/multicultural-themes\/asian-theme-weddings\/\">Chinese wedding decorations<\/a> \u5927\u559c\u88c5\u9970<\/b><br \/>\nDouble joy \u53cc\u559cstickers will be placed on all wedding items such as the betrothal gifts, dowry, the couple\u2019s toiletries and cosmetics.
