The traditional wedding service in the Greek Orthodox faith is an ancient\u00a0and gorgeous ceremony that\u2019s continued unchanged for centuries. It\u2019s also a ceremony full of symbolism. And it amounts to a great experience if you\u2019ve never attended one before, because it\u2019s likely to be quite different from other weddings you\u2019ve been to. Many people find the service itself rather unique. The bride and\u00a0groom don\u2019t make vows to each other \u2014 it\u2019s understood that standing together in\u00a0the church shows they\u2019re serious about getting\u00a0married.<\/p>\n

How it All Begins \u2026<\/h2>\n

In most\u00a0cases, the wedding guests wait with the groom outside the church\u00a0until the bride arrives (a few sneaky wedding pros will go into\u00a0the church early to secure a good seat). In summer, when most\u00a0weddings take place, it\u2019s not unusual for ceremonies to be scheduled\u00a0back to back. So the wedding guests will often hang\u00a0around with those who\u2019ve just attended the previous wedding as\u00a0they prepare to leave. The crowd\u2019s professional wedding commentators will get to talk over at least two and maybe even three brides\u00a0as they leave the church (bargain)!<\/p>\n
