{"id":7866,"date":"2015-01-04T15:25:11","date_gmt":"2015-01-04T15:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.topweddingquestions.com\/blog\/?p=7866"},"modified":"2015-01-04T15:25:11","modified_gmt":"2015-01-04T15:25:11","slug":"wording-wedding-invitations-when-parents-are-divorced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.topweddingsites.com\/wedding-blog\/uncategorized\/wording-wedding-invitations-when-parents-are-divorced","title":{"rendered":"Wording Wedding Invitations When Parents Are Divorced"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">WORDING WEDDING INVITATIONS WHEN PARENTS DIVORCED, GROOMS&#8217; PARENTS ARE BOTH REMARRIED<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>What is proper etiquette for wording wedding invitations for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>My mother (divorced and not remarried)<\/li>\n<li>My father (divorced and not remarried)<\/li>\n<li>My FI\u2019s mother (divorced and remarried)<\/li>\n<li>My FI\u2019s father (divorced and remarried)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They are all contributing to the wedding cost and we would like to have their names on there.\u00a0I already thought about the option of \u2018together with their families\u2019, but my mother is planning on inviting relatives from her family who are elderly and if they did not see her name, they would not recognize who I was.<\/p>\n<p>Also we also thought about:<br \/>\nMr. S and Ms. S (Bride&#8217;s parents on one line, they said it would be okay)<br \/>\nAnd<br \/>\nMr. L and Mrs. B (Groom&#8217;s father (remarried) and Groom&#8217;s mother (remarried) on one line<\/p>\n<p>Would that look okay if we kept out my FI\u2019s step-parents name?<br \/>\nAlso when you word the parents name how does it work???..<\/p>\n<p>The father&#8217;s names:<br \/>\nMr. (first name) (last name)<br \/>\nBride&#8217;s mother is divorced and not remarried.<br \/>\nMs. (first name) (maiden name) (last name)<br \/>\nGroom&#8217;s mother is remarried:<br \/>\nMrs. (first name) (new married name)<br \/>\nThank you for your help. This is very confusing when it comes to wording.<\/p>\n<h4>Etiquette Now<\/h4>\n<p>You would include all of their names because they are all contributing. The step parents are contributing through their spouses. So, your invitation could look like this:<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Bride&#8217;s Mother (could use first name)<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bride&#8217;s Father (could use first name)<\/p>\n<p>and<\/p>\n<p>Mr. and Mrs. Groom&#8217;s Mother<\/p>\n<p>Mr. and Mrs. Groom&#8217;s Father<\/p>\n<p>request the honour of your presence<\/p>\n<p>at the marriage of<\/p>\n<p>Bride<\/p>\n<p>to<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Groom<\/p>\n<p>etc.<\/p>\n<p>Your mother&#8217;s name is listed first, not your father&#8217;s. You can use her first name, but not her maiden name if she doesn&#8217;t use it. If she still uses the title Mrs., list that. If she doesn&#8217;t, use Ms. or just her first name.<\/p>\n<p>The groom&#8217;s mother and husband are listed before his father and his wife. Mothers are listed first. And, you would never have a woman&#8217;s name after Mr. unless it is his name. Mr. is always used first. If it were the other way around, the last name would have had to have been hers not his.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Karen Anderson<br \/>\nMr. Edward Anderson<br \/>\nMr. and Mrs. Larry Samuelson<br \/>\nMr. and Mrs. Albert Peterson<\/p>\n<p>If you choose to eliminate all titles, the groom&#8217;s parents names could be:<\/p>\n<p>Susan and Larry Samuelson<br \/>\nDaisy and Albert Perterson<\/p>\n<p>There is an old rule many still follow about not separating a man from his last name.
