Our daughter was married by a Justice of the Peace with no reception following. She is getting remarried and is asking for a full blown wedding, what is the proper etiquette on the financial costs? Parents aren’t finanically obligated to give their children a wedding; first, second or otherwise. Long gone are the days when a woman went from the home of her parents to her husband’s home. In those days it was traditional for the parent’s to host a wedding. Today, most couples are financially independant before marriage, and more so if they are getting remarried. If you’d like to help the couple out, that would be very generous, but you’re not expected to pay. <\/p>\n
I agree. You are under no obligation for anything except a congratulations to the couple. <\/p>\n
A new age with old tradtions does not hold true for “financial obligations” to be paid by the parents. I agree with Wedding Queen that times have changed and the responsibilities of who pays for what has shifted from the parents of the bride to the couple.
