How To Buy Gift From Registry

Hi,

I’ve never actually used a wedding gift registry. How do they work from a guest perspective?

Do I buy the gift online and have it shipped to the bride, should I pick it up at the store and bring it to the reception or do I just pay for the gift online and the bride/groom pick up the gift from the store? How does a card fit into the registry scheme?

My wife has also been invited to the bridal shower. Should we use the registry for this gift as well? The shower is tomorrow so can she just bring a card indicating that she purchased from the registry?

Thanks for your help.

The guest could select a gift from the registry either online or in-store. The gift is then shipped to the home of the bride before the wedding with a card enclosed from you.

Your wife can select something from the wedding gift registry for the shower, however she should wrap and bring the gift to the shower. Gift cards are not appropriate for showers. In fact, many people feel that gift cards aren’t appropriate for the wedding either. it’s always best to shop for a gift that allow the couple to know you really thought of them, as I’m sure they think about showing their wedding guests a great time.

I completely agree. And if you are speaking of a card for the gift from the registry, the store will provide a generic card and if you wish to go above and beyond with your sentiments, by all means feel free to send a personalized card.

Thanks so much for the info.

I wasn’t actually thinking of a gift card (I hate those things). What I wondered is if the gift registry store has a service to ship the gift directly to the bride’s home, then what do I do about the card.

Or would it really be better if I picked-up the gift at the registry store, wrapped it and shipped it myself with a personalized card?

Either way is fine. The store will include a card with your name. As Nancy said, if you want to send your own card you may either send it after the store ships the gift or you can buy the gift, wrap and ship on your own. Just don’t bring the gift to the reception.
