Proposing to a woman who doesn’t wear jewelry

I plan to propose to my girlfriend and she doesn’t wear jewelry. Not even a watch. So buying her a ring is out of the question. What do I give her when I pop the question? We are both very religious and attend the same type of church. I’ve thought about using a Bible, but I’m not sold on the idea. Whatever I use needs to be able to be concealed on my person for a few hours. We have been together almost a year now, and I plan on proposing on a year to the date when we met.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What a wonderful occasion for her to learn about wearing jewelry! Rings are as old as tradition itself.

Just because she doesn’t wear jewelry doesn’t mean she won’t wear a wedding ring. Many women who are not into jewelry will make the exception for a simple, understated, engagement ring or just a wedding band. If your girl is any bit traditional, she may want one even though she wears no other jewelry.

This is something you should really talk to her about. If you can bring the topic up casually in conversation before you propose, you can get a feel for what she’s interested in. Or, maybe after you propose to her. You don’t have to have bling in hand to propose. The prize is the proposal. Make your proposal something really special, romantic, and memorable. Afterwards, you can talk to her about alternatives to a ring, if she would like a ring, and then the two of you can pick out something she would really like.

Best Wishes to you!

It would be best to make sure your lady truly does not want a ring. If you’re sure that’s the case, then a ring isn’t necessary to seal the deal. I like the idea of the bible, maybe with a special inscription which would turn it into a keepsake or family heirloom.

A ring is always preferable, however, how about what I will call a “pocket locket,” perhaps in the shape of a heart with both of your photos inside.
