Unity Candle for vow renewal

One last question. My husband wants to light a unity candle at our vow renewal ceremony. But instead of having one candle to light from two tapers as in first weddings, he wants to have one unity candle already lit to symbolize the past and have us light another to symbolize the future. Does anyone have any suggestions how this can be done smoothly and possible wording that could be said by the minister?

Hi, I know what you are going through. I was having a heck of a time deciding what to do. I am using this in my renewal in Oct. I found it from another message board. It was written by a minister. Hope it works. I didn’t have a Unity Candle when I got married so I was thrilled when I found this.[:)]

Lighting of the Unity Candle

The Unity Candle may signify many things, but today it symbolizes the coming together of your past and your future together. When you were first married, the flames of your love burned brightly, but we all know that fire tends to die out if not tended to. And so, you must re-kindle those flames every day if the light of your love is to survive. As you light this Unity Candle today, may you continue to light up each other’s life for as long as God gives you breath.

WEDDING PRAYER & BLESSING:
May all that you are, always be in love;
and may all that is love always be in you.
May your love be as beautiful on each day share
as it is on this day of celebration.

May each day you share be as precious to you
as the day you first fell in love.
May you always see and encourage the best in each other.
May the challenges life brings your way
make your marriage even stronger.
And may you always be each others best friend
and greatest love.
