Bridal Portraits to Display at Wedding Reception

Is it necessary to take bridal portraits before the wedding? We will have engagement photos to display at the reception. Is this sufficent or will people wonder where the bridal portrait is?

I have never been to a wedding where the couple displayed pictures of themselves. If you have, it may be a regional thing although I have been to weddings, and know wedding planners, across the USA.

Honestly there is no set rule on this. However, most brides wait until after the wedding for their bridal portraits. This is generally because most brides don’t want to dirty their dress.

Having said that you can do what ever makes you happy. I’ve taken engagement pictures and had the couple setup a picture for all the guest to sign the border of. It was then framed and put in their home as a permenent reminder of not only their engagement, but also the people who attended their wedding.

I’ve shot the engagement shoot and had the couple order a book that they used as their guestbook for people to sign. Once again, another way to remember both the people and the engagement.

I’d personally wait until after the wedding as a dirty wedding dress due to an accidental fall, rain, or something else is possible.

Good advice. Many will take some of their pictures before the wedding just because they don’t want to make their guests wait for them. This is very considerate to guests.

I also have never heard of displaying photos at the reception. But, I like the idea of guests signing one. That would be very sweet.

Thank you all for your advice! I think I will use the idea of having the guests sign one of our pictures!

Thank you again for this site. It has answered so many of my questions![:)]

You’re most welcome.

I love the idea for the signature frame too.
