Wording Invitations for Blessing for the Marriage Ceremony

Invitation Wording for a Marriage Blessing

What is the correct invitation wording for a couple married 5.5 years who are having a church blessing and hosting it themselves. Also, what kind of insertions are appropriate? Can a reception card, and a response card and envelope be included? Is an inner envelope necessary?

Etiquette Now

This isn’t a wedding and shouldn’t appear to be. So, you wouldn’t be as formal with your invitations as you would be with a wedding by using enclosures or inner envelopes. It isn’t a reception; it is a party, an anniversary party, or a party to celebrate the blessing of your marriage. So, a reception invitation isn’t necessary. You don’t even need a response card.

It really shouldn’t involve many guests, as a blessing of your marriage is more about the church blessing your vows or marriage. It is usually just family and a few close friends. This is an example of the typical, formal invitation.

For an informal event, your invitation can be informal language.

If the blessing ceremony is to be held in a church and the invitation is coming from the newlyweds, I would suggest this wording:

the affirmation of their wedding vows

If the ceremony is in a church but hosted by the bride’s parents:

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith’s
wedding vows

If the ceremony is in a non-denominational venue:
