Desserts are really a dime a dozen these days. Choosing an alternatives to wedding cake should be a piece of cake- that is if you prefer wedding cake. If you don’t want to stray too far from tradition, cupcakes for weddings are still a very popular idea. A cupcake tower is a definite crowd pleaser.

These days they are almost as popular as the typical reception cake. Love chocolate, vanilla, and carrot? Have an assortment of cupcake flavors for your guests to choose from. And the best part is your cupcakes for weddings design can be customized for almost any wedding theme. Adorn the cupcakes with ballet slippers for a dance themed wedding. Or create daisies and sunflowers with icing for a garden wedding in the summer.

Along with hand-held fans and strappy sandals, summer weddings also call for a tasty treat to cool guests down. Of course, that’s nothing an ice pop can’t do. Give your guests a cute surprise by bringing in a popsicle stand or ice cream bar to satisfy your guests need to quench their frozen fruit juice craving. People Pops, a New York based ice pop and shaved ice company can help. They create unique ice pops using locally grown fruits and herbs suitable for any summer day. But if you are looking for the real thing look no further than the fruit bar.

Not only is it perfect for your health conscience friend, but admiring watermelon carvings prove to be a great source of entertainment. You can even choose fruits with colors that match your wedding theme. Try serving with an assortment of nuts and granola bars to make each fruit helping complete.

Fruit bars may be entertaining, but nothing gets the party started like dessert shots. Dessert shots are very popular in chain restaurants such as P.F. Chang and Chili’s. Why not bring them into your wedding? These tasty shots can be made using your favorite flavors and desserts such as chocolate mousse, strawberry cheesecake, and peanut butter. Get creative by serving dessert shots in a fancy shot glass displaying the wedding colors or even the couple’s initials.

You may not be the only one looking to get creative. Guests might want in on the action as well. A cotton candy bar equipped with various flavors and cones allow guests to mix, match and create a special combination. Rent all the equipment you need from a candy company. Don’t want to make guests do any work? Have a special cotton candy mix brought to their table in a unique martini glass. Or give guests a choice, by providing a candy bar filled with all the sweets you loved as a kid. After all, dessert time is the best way to bring out the child in all of us. Take advantage of it.

No matter what type of goodie you have, one or two small “pin lights” shining on the table adds a great dimension and highlights the artistry of the table! We saw the need and purchased a few. They are not very expensive and really add a great touch!

Tom, I am a big fan of the Groom’s cake. My family is Trinidadian and it’s a big thing within in that culture. Actually, in Trinidad the mother of the groom is usually the one who bakes and decorates the grooms cake. They always turned out great!
