Mother of Bride/Mother of Groom Dress – match bridesmaids

Hi,

Should the Mother of the Bride/Groom match the bridesmaids? I do not think they should match the bridesmaids, but instead should compliment or coordinate somehow with the bridesmaids. Can you let me know if my thinking is logical or if I am just being obsessive, please, and also some advice on why??Thanks!![:)]

The Mother of the Bride and the Mother of the Groom should compliment each other, not the bridesmaids. Neither mother should dress in a way as to match the bridesmaids.

Yes, but the mothers would blend with the bridesmaids colors. So, you are correct. It is basically just so all of the colors blend together. It is supposed to be a ‘pretty picture’.

The mother of the bride chooses her dress first based on the bridesmaid’s dresses, matching the formality, length and blending the color. So, if the dresses were purple, she would choose a dress in that color palette or a contrasting color–something that doesn’t clash. The mother of the groom coordinates with her.

They shouldn’t match the color because it could appear as if they were also attendants.

All of this information is in every wedding etiquette book I’ve read, so it will be easy to find supporting advice.
